‘Tis the season – Palmers gives back to the community in 2023

It’s been a fantastic year for all of us here at Palmers, in the office and beyond.

From new starters to long-time team members, everyone has embraced a range of activities and initiatives for some incredible local charities.

Our official charity, The Polly Parrot Appeal – on behalf of the Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals Charity (BTHC) – has been the focus of much of our charity efforts this year.

In April, the team had the opportunity to present a further donation of £867.35, providing vital funding to the children’s wards and neonatal unit. The money was donated by Palmers for each completed client feedback questionnaire we received.

In November, we were delighted to head down to the Christmas light switch-on in Rayleigh, where we raised £120.70 for the charity, and Rayleigh Town Museum.

Looking back to the beginning of the year, we truly started as we meant to go on, with our own Gemma Bell and Kimberley Portas visiting Basildon Hospital to deliver a cheque for £1,392.63. The money was raised by last year’s Christmas activities alongside generous client donations and contributions from the firm itself.

In addition to our ongoing support for this wonderful appeal, we’ve been encouraging members of our team to get involved in a range of events that reflect their skills and interests.

On Saturday, 20 May 2023, a team from Palmers Solicitors took to the pitch at World Cup-on-Sea, a 32 team, seven-a-side football tournament being played on Southend United’s home pitch at the iconic Roots Hall Stadium. The event raised much-needed funds for HARP, Southend’s homelessness charity.

Colin Adamson, a member of the litigation team, took part in the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s Motorcycle Run on 10 September, raising money to keep the incredible service airborne.

September was also World Alzheimer’s Month, when a number of us raised £270 for the Alzheimer’s Society with a Memory Walk, collectively walking 60 miles – the distance between our offices in Basildon, Rayleigh, South Woodham Ferrers and Thurrock.

More recently, reflecting our long-standing support for the Essex Wildlife Trust, we celebrated our 40th anniversary at Langdon Nature Discovery Park to plant 40 trees to reaffirm our commitment to environmental working practices and the local community.

We’d like to thank everyone at Palmers who got involved in activities beyond the office that allowed us to give back to the Essex community.

Keep a close eye on our social media for updates on our upcoming charity and community initiatives as we head into 2024.
