Two teachers face bans after a professional conduct panel found they had tried to impose too much Islamic teaching on pupils.
Akeel Ahmed, 41, and Inamulhaq Anwar, 34, denied they had stepped up religious influence at the former Park View Academy in Alum Rock, Birmingham – now renamed Rockwood Academy.
The National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) panel found against them.
The panel stressed there was no evidence of Islamic ‘extremism’ in classrooms, but concluded that pupils had been ‘immersed in orthodox Islamic doctrine’ through measures including the use of the school’s loudspeaker system to broadcast a daily call to prayer.
It also found there had been a co-ordinated attempt at the state-funded institutions to include ‘undue religious influence’.
The panel found both men had ‘reformed the school curriculum to exclude proper teaching of sex and relationship education, use of contraception and safe sex’.
The pair are subject to interim teaching bans and are due to be sanctioned.
