Palmers Solicitors, which has offices in Basildon, Thurrock and South Woodham Ferrers, will be donating £25 to the Alzheimer’s Society for every Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) created with the firm this May.
The move is timed to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week, which this year is taking place from 15 to 21 May.
LPAs are legal documents that appoint a designated person to deal with another person’s affairs if they are unable to do so themselves due to an illness or accident. This designated person becomes the Attorney and, depending on the type of LPA granted, can make decisions about health and welfare and / or financial matters.
Partner, Lee McClellan said of their decision to make the donations: “I have a personal reason for supporting Alzheimer’s Society as both my paternal grandparents suffered from Alzheimer’s before they died. This means I know how valuable the work of the Alzheimer’s Society is and all members of the department here are signed up Dementia Friends.”
“Although most of us don’t like to think about the situations where a Lasting Power of Attorney would be needed, putting a plan in place is good way to ensure your peace of mind.
“At Palmers, we specialise in all aspects of creating and registering a Lasting Power of Attorney, including when it should come into effect and how to cancel it. For more information, please visit our website or contact our Wills and Probate department.”
