Palmers Solicitors recognised for staff wellbeing initiatives with shortlisting for prestigious national award

Palmers Solicitors is one of just four law companies from across the UK to be shortlisted in the Wellbeing category of the prestigious LexisNexis Legal Awards 2019.

The rigorous judging process saw us make a detailed written submission to the judges, setting out the full range of initiatives it undertakes to promote the wellbeing of its staff.

Recent innovations within the company include its decision to train six Mental Health First Aiders with Mental Health First Aid England across its four offices. The course is internationally recognised.  It is designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and how to provide help on a first aid basis.

In addition to promoting mindfulness training classes over the last four years, in 2019 the company has embarked on training about food and nutrition to support physical and mental wellbeing, all as part of its holistic approach to employment.

The success of Palmers Solicitors in promoting the wellbeing of its staff can be seen its retention rate, with around a third of directors and staff at the company having been there for more than a decade. Meanwhile, five of the company’s directors and staff have been there for around 30 years.

Carey Jacobs, a Director at Palmers Solicitors, said: “At Palmers Solicitors, our priorities are our clients and our staff. Looking after the wellbeing of our team and trying new things to support them underlines our commitment to being a first-class employer. It also enables all of us to function in such a way that we are able to provide friendly, approachable, proactive and balanced advice and the best possible service to all of our clients. A happy team does, in our view, lead to happy clients.

“As a company that provides employment law and HR advice, we also want to be a model of best practice for our employer clients.

“We are delighted that we have been shortlisted for this award and look forward to finding out whether we have won.”

The winners of the Lexis Nexis Legal Awards 2019 will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane on Wednesday 13 March 2019.
