Matt Johnson, a solicitor at Essex-based Palmers Solicitors has just completed a community fairness project with the Thurrock Fairness Commission.
The Thurrock Fairness Commission is an independent body set up to examine inequalities in Thurrock and investigate the kind of initiative which might make Thurrock a fairer place to live.
For the past 12 months, Matt has been involved in listening to the views and opinions of local people, encouraging closer working between Thurrock-based organisations and making recommendations to local authorities for public service strategies Matt has made a significant contribution to the creation of the Commission’s final report, which has been shared with key local agencies including Thurrock CCG, Essex Police, Thurrock Health and Well Being Board and Thurrock Community Safety Partnership.
Of the experience, Matt said: “The exercise was interesting and enlightening and it certainly brought things to my attention in Thurrock that I was not aware of before.
“The Fairness Commission has now concluded, with the publication of our final report. But only time will tell whether our recommendations will be acted upon.”
Carey Jacobs, Partner at Palmers said: “At Palmers, the views, opinions and wellbeing of our local community are of real importance to us. Matt has dedicated a good deal of his spare time to this project. We would like to thank Matt for his recent work and congratulate him on his appointment to the Thurrock Fairness Commission.
