International Women’s Day – Palmers supports call for Gender Parity

Tuesday March 8th is International Women’s Day which celebrates the contributions that women worldwide continue to make to social, economic, cultural and political achievement.

This year’s campaign theme is #‘Pledge for Parity.’ In simple terms this means enabling girls and women to have the same opportunities in life as their male counterparts.

Whilst there is much to celebrate in 2016, progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places.

The World Economic Forum predicted in 2014 that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Then one year later in 2015, they estimated that a slowdown in the already glacial pace of progress meant the gender gap wouldn’t close entirely until 2133.

At Palmers we are proud to support International Women’s Day’s Pledge for Parity.

Our firm is fortunate to have many talented and knowledgeable female members of staff – 85 per cent of our workforce is female.

At Management level, three of the four members of Palmers’ Management Committee are women – our financial controller, Ada Sula, our Practice Manager, Gina Newman and Managing Partner Carey Jacobs.

Our five longest serving employees are also all women, including:

  • Chrissy Smith – February1976
  • Denise Williams – April1988
  • Gina Newman – November 1989
  • Lynn Ashmore – March1990
  • Sharron Keenes – October 1990

Our firm’s culture is indicative of – and embraces – the #‘Pledge for Parity.’ Working and moving forward together, we can all play our part in forging a lasting legacy of growth, increased prosperity and stronger communities.
