A commercial law specialist at Palmers has advised a client on a major deal designed to help build a greener Britain.
Palmers’ partner BJ Chong worked with Brentwood-based S Walsh & Son, a specialist provider of building materials and construction services, to help secure a long-term agreement with Imerys Minerals Ltd (IML).
IML’s china clay production in Cornwall generates millions of tonnes of by-product annually, much of which can be processed into secondary aggregates.
Westley Pickup, commercial director of S Walsh, said: “It has always been our long-term vision to secure a sustainable resource to build a greener London. We have undertaken extensive research and know that these products can be used more widely for infrastructure, residential, commercial, education and health construction projects.
“Secondary aggregate from china clay waste meets the requirements of sustainable building in the UK. There is a huge lack of understanding of availability and potential for this ‘secondary’ resource and we expect that through our commercial relationships we can share what the possibilities are.”
S Walsh has also drawn up plans to use rail and sea terminals to reduce lorry movements and the company is planning new manufacturing facilities to meeting increasing demand for sustainable construction products.
BJ Chong said: “We are delighted to have supported S Walsh in securing this major deal. Sustainability is a key issue in construction today and this initiative will help to further underline the benefits and potential of sustainable building products.”
